Carl Henry Hoelscher (1926-2021)
Carl Henry Hoelscher, 95, of Bushton, Kan., passed away Oct. 29, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born July 21, 1926, in rural Chase, Kan., the son of Homer David and Lydia Anna Mehl Hoelscher.
Carl graduated from Bushton Rural High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He has farmed in the Bushton area since 1951. Carl was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, rural Bushton and Gideons International. Carl enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.
On Nov. 12, 1950, Carl was united in marriage with Velma L. Cruth in Bushton. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1981. On Nov. 23, 1985, Carl was united in marriage with Helene Clark Appel in Bushton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 1998. On Aug. 14, 1999, Carl was united in marriage with Lois Doughty Biehler Behnke in Bushton. She preceded him in death on July 29, 2010.
Carl is also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Carlene ‘Patti’ Hoelscher Rolfs; two brothers, Verl and Alvin Hoelscher; and two brothers-in-law, William ‘Bill’ Frees and Jim Fredrickson.
Carl is survived by daughter, Margie John and husband Robert of Bushton; and children, Jessica Sullivan and husband Jesse of Colorado Springs, Colo., Matthew John and wife Emily of Lexington, Ky, and their children, Betsy and Lena, and Jenni Stringham and husband Liam of Hays, Kan. and their son, Jonathan; son-in-law, Scott Rolfs and wife Toni of Bushton, and children, Justin Rolfs and wife Stephanie of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Monte Rolfs and wife Melissa of Lorraine, Kan., and their children, Cassidy and Caroline; son, Don Hoelscher and wife Joy of Bushton, and children, Micah Hoelscher and wife Becca of Newton, Kan., and their children, Eli, Chloe, Blake and Jase; Andrew Hoelscher and wife Courtney of Newton, Kan., and their children, Addi, Hannah, Kate, Mia, and twin girls expected in the new year, Laura Neff and husband Judah of McPherson, Kan. and their children, Isaac and Amelia; two sisters, Roberta Frees of Lyons and Annabel Fredrickson of Topeka, Kan.; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Hoelscher of Derby, Kan.; seven step-children; 20 step-grandchildren; and 34 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12 until 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons and 6 until 8 p.m., at Salem United Methodist Church with family present.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Salem United Methodist Church, rural Bushton, with Pastor Tom Reazin officiating. Burial will follow at the Salem United Methodist Cemetery with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials may be given to Salem United Methodist Church, Gideons International, or Isaac Neff Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
