Herbert “Herb” Dean Perkins (1955-2024)
Herbert “Herb” Dean Perkins, 69, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, in Ellsworth, Kan. He was born July 30, 1955, in Ellsworth to Charlie “Choc” Perkins and Elda (Janzen) Perkins. Herb was a 1973 graduate of Geneseo High School. He married Janice Allen at the Geneseo Methodist Church in Geneseo, Kan., on Oct. 20, 1973. He worked as a mechanic for Ref-Chem for 20 years, as lead welder at Moly Mfg. in Lorraine, Kan., for over 10 years, shop foreman for HD Steel, then Cashco in Ellsworth, retiring in 2017 after seven years. He was a loyal member of the Lorraine Fire Department from 1973-2017, a member of the Odin Saddle Club and El-Kan Western Riders and a longtime 4-H supporter. In his early years, he broke horses. In his later years, his passion was his grandkids.
Herb is survived by his daughter Kimberly Travnichek (Joe), Lorraine; son Dustin Perkins (Elizabeth), Lorraine; grandchildren Wyatt (Kennedy), Kash and Shylo Travnichek, Annabelle, Jane and Luke Perkins, Cassie and Billy Duncan and bonus granddaughter Becca Stratmann; great-grandchildren Brody, Paisley, Mayvie, Watson and Emery; mother Elda Perkins, Geneseo; and sister Cindy Perkins-Wereley (Brian), San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father Choc Perkins; wife Jan Perkins; infant son Jerry Grant Perkins; and brother Charles Perkins.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral servic will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at Lyons First Baptist Church. Prior to the service, a private family burial will take place at Lorraine Baptist Cemetery.
